Discover the role of your social brand

Discover the role of your social brand

Social media has proved to be a great leveller, allowing any company to join in and be apart of the social web. The barriers to entry are low and as a result corporate use of social media is growing exponentially.

However, although it may be relatively simple to set up and create a social media presence, it’s another challenge entirely to craft a distinctive, defined and meaningful brand personality.

Based on the post ‘What is the Role(s) of Your Social Brand‘ by John Bell, I decided to visualise the various brand personalities a company can take on when participating in social media using platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. The result is the infographic ‘Discover the role of your social brand’, brilliantly conceived and designed by Sally King at SK Graphic Design.

As John points out in his post, there are variations around each of the personalities and although the point is not to be tied to one single choice, the infographic hopefully reinforces the importance of being mindful of the role you play in social media.

This post is really insightful – I absolutely love the infographic, too! Great stuff.

      Hi Kimberley

Thanks a lot for the comment, it’s really appreciated.

However, I think we’d both agree the best thing about this post is the infographic, which was wonderfully designed by Sally. She must take ALL the credit! 🙂

Very nice job Gavin and Sally!  If I had to define myself by the chess pieces…hmm I would say I was a combination of The Cheerleader and the Coach.  Definitely worth thinking of what changes you can make in your strategy to fill the role of some of the other chess pieces.

Thank you for the the thoughtful post, guys!

      Many thanks, Dali.

After I read the original post by John Bell ( I thought the roles he set out would work well in an infographic.

At this point in time, I’m a Coach. But depending on who I’m working for and what project I sometimes vary between being a Club Host and an Enabler!
